Every year for as long as I can remember I would have a reoccurring dream once or twice a year about a nice day at the family home when out of no where a passenger plane would blow up above our house and a jet engine would fall killing my mother. The dream stopped the year my mother died unexpectedly at the young age of 52. It's been since 2008 and I have not had the dream since
Dreams often serve as reflections of our subconscious thoughts, emotions, and experiences. In your case, the recurring dream about a plane explosion and the loss of your mother appears to be deeply symbolic and may relate to several significant themes:
Fear and Anxiety: The dream likely represents a profound fear of losing a loved one, particularly your mother. The suddenness of the plane explosion could symbolize an unforeseen tragedy or a significant life change, which might have felt particularly threatening to you.
Proximity to Loss: Since this dream recurred over many years, it might indicate that you were processing anticipatory grief or anxiety about potential loss. The repetition could signify that your mind was alerting you to your fears, even before they manifested in reality.
Symbol of Change: Planes often symbolize transition or journeys. The explosion could indicate a fear of disruptions in your life or family dynamics, particularly in relation to your mother's role. The dream may have mirrored a subconscious concern about instability and change within your family structure.
Processing Grief: The fact that the dream stopped after your mother's passing suggests that your mind may have needed to process the reality of that loss. Dreams often help us work through grief, providing a space for emotional processing. With her passing, the dream may have lost its relevance or necessity.
Connection and Memory: Recurring dreams about loved ones who have passed may also indicate a desire to connect or preserve memories—a way for your subconscious to continue to honor the relationship you had with your mother.
The significant impact of this dream on your psyche might still resonate with you today, given its connection to your mother's unexpected passing. Exploring these feelings through journaling or discussing them with someone may help you process any lingering emotions related to this experience. Overall, this dream encapsulates a complex blend of fear, grief, and eventual closure as you navigated one of life's most challenging transitions.
